I love turning food into something cute for the kids. I was looking for some valentines and saw a bunch that said “You Octopi My Heart.” I just thought that was adorable, and then I got this little idea in my head to make valentine fruit cups as octopuses (or rather octopi) for my middle daughter’s Valentine’s Day exchange.
They came out so cute, I just had to share with all of you. It’s the little cellophane bags that really finish them off because they make the tentacles sort of fly up. I just love how they look all packaged up.

Supplies to make Octopus Valentines
- Fruit Cups
- Big Solid Color Foam Heart Stickers (about 1.5 to 2 inches long)
- Sticky Googly Eyes
- Cellophane Bags
- Plastic Spoons
- String
How to make the Octopus Valentine Fruit Cups
Download the Octopus Valentines.
To create the octopus fruit cup, flip the fruit cup upside down and turn it so the little pull tab is in the back. Then, add googly eyes to the front.
Cut the center out of a foam heart as if you are cutting out a smaller heart to create 2 tentacles. Do this with 4 hearts.
Then stick the tentacles around the fruit cup top (that is now the bottom). This will leave some adhesive exposed upward, since the tentacles are attached to the fruit cup, but I found that not to be a problem at all.
When I got my adhesive foam hearts, there were swirl spiral foam stickers in the package as well, so I thought those would make cute little mouths. Depending on which way you put the swirl it can look happy, excited or sad.
These Octopus Valentine Fruits Cups absolutely do not need mouths, so this is totally optional. In real life, you can’t even see their mouths because they are under their bodies, but I thought it looked cute this way. However, if you want to find the heart foam stickers with the spirals, I got mine at Michaels.
Next, insert each fruit cup into a treat bag with a spoon. Be gentle so as to not pull off any tentacles and then maneuver the fruit cup so that the tentacles stick upward against the bag. This makes it look really like an octopus.
Tie the bags closed with a string and a octopus valentine attached to each one.
These Octopus Valentine Fruit Cups are just so adorable and perfect for a healthier treat for the class party exchange! You can make these valentine fruit cups with a variety of choices from peach cups to my favorite the cherry fruit cocktail ones to even applesauce flavors! These would look so cute with the pink colored applesauce.
