What do you need to make Strawberry Hand Pies in the Air Fryer?
If you want to make most any mini hand pies in the air fryer, it’s best to keep a package of refrigerator pie crusts on hand.
For these Strawberry Hand Pies, you’ll need a can of strawberry pie filling. You can also fancy up the outside of your hand pies with an egg wash and turbinado sugar.
I have two products that make hand-pie making super fast and simple.
- I have this little stainless steel dumpling maker. It’s very sturdy and good quality. I’ve had a plastic one in the past that just fell apart after one use. This metal one is excellent. It makes 4-inch hand pies that are perfect in size.
- I also have this set of cookie cutters. One of the middle cutters is 4 inches and is perfect to make the circles for the hand pies to fit into the dumpling maker.
How do you make Strawberry Hand Pies in the Air Fryer?
Take the package of refrigerator pie crusts out of the fridge and let them warm up a little on the counter for 10-20 minutes.
Unroll a pie crust on a piece of wax paper or parchment paper.
Use the cookie cutter to cut 4-inch circles. If you are strategic about it, you can get 7-8 circles. I can get 7 circles and then I roll the leftover dough to get an 8th circle.
Add two strawberries from the pie filling in the center of each pie crust circle.
Get a small bowl filled with water.
Right before adding the pie circle to the dumpling maker, dip your finger in the water bowl and run it around the edge of the pie circle.
Place the pie circle in the dumpling maker and press. The water will help keep the crust sealed while baking.
Combine the egg with a tablespoon of water and beat until smooth. Brush the egg wash over the top of each hand pie and sprinkle with turbinado sugar. If you want to add a little Valentine look, sprinkle pink sanding sugar with the turbinado sugar.
If you have someone with an egg allergy, like my 3 year old, you can brush the tops of the pies with water or even heavy cream and add the sugar, and they come out nice, too.
Place the hand pies in the air fryer.
Bake at 350 F degrees for about 12 minutes, until golden brown.
Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
