How do you make a Gnome Love Jar?
I found a pink-colored pint-size mason jar at the Dollar Spot at Target. But, a regular clear-colored mason jar would work just as well. Here’s a tutorial from Capturing Parenthood on how to tint a mason jar yourself!
I found this little gnome at the craft store as a wreath pick. He’s about 5-6 inches tall. I took the pick out of his little bum.
If you can’t get your hands on a gnome, then a little teddy bear or a valentine little stuffed animal would be super cute, too!
Print out the Sweet Nothing printable. Then, cut the phrases into strips.
Choose one of the shorter phrases for your gnome to hold as a sign. Set it aside. Roll up each of the rest of the phrases and set aside.
Break the toothpick in half. Then, ad a glue dot to the top half of each piece of toothpick.
Wrap one end of of the phrase around the toothpick top of the toothpick with the glue dot. You may need to add an additional glue dot to the paper as you roll it just to secure it. Then, do the exact same thing for the other side.
Add a glue dot or two to the back of the palm of your little gnome. Then place the little sign in it’s hands.
Add 2-3 glue dots to the bottom of your gnome.
Carefully lower the gnome down into the mason jar and press firmly to the bottom of the mason jar. Watch that you don’t catch his arms on the sides of the jar and tear up the sign. Try to position him so that he has a little bit of space in front of him, so position him towards the back of the mason jar.
You might need to use something like a chopstick or pencil to move his arms so the sign looks best.
Now drop the rest of the phrases that you rolled up into the jar at the bottom of the mason jar in front of the feet of the gnome.
I had a package of felt heart ornaments, so I placed the ribbon to one inside the lid before sealing it closed. This way it hang on the side of the jar.
Use glue dots to place the pompom ribbon trim around the entire edge of the lid.
This is totally optional: I like to add a flickering tea light to the inside of the lid, so the whole thing lights up. I use these submersible tea lights as they are easy to attach to the inside of the lid with just a dollop of hot glue or a couple of glue dots. Plus, the batteries are easy to replace.
