Ingredients to make Puff Pastry Pies
This particular recipe used fruit preserves, so we used 1 tablespoon of strawberry preserves or raspberry preserves. If you’re using another filling, just use 1 tablespoon of that one.
- 2 sheet puff pastry (Pepperidge Farms puff pastry comes with 2 sheets in a box)
- 1 jar of fruit preserves
- 1 can frosting (we used pink Valentine’s Day Funfetti as it included the sprinkles on top)
- water
- optional: sprinkles
How do you make Valentine’s Day Hand Pies with Puff Pastry?
Preheat the oven to 375 F degrees.
Lay out a puff pastry sheet on parchment paper. Use a pizza cutter or a knife and cut the sheet into 3 equal strips.
Separate the puff pastry strips slightly.
Add 1 tablespoon of fruit preserve to the lower half of each strip, keeping the edges clear.
Brush the edges of each strip with water.
Fold down the top of the puff pastry, so it forms a rectangular pie shape and gently press closed.
Use a fork to go around the edges to press the pies completely closed.
In the center of each pie, gently poke the tines of the fork about 2-3 times.
Transfer the pies to a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
Do this exact same thing to the next sheet of puff pastry and put those 3 pies on the cookie sheet.
Chill the pies for about 30 minutes in the fridge. You can chill them overnight as well.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the pies are golden brown and have risen.
Transfer the pies to a cooling rack. Allow them to cool completely before adding frosting.
When the pies are completely cool, melt the frosting in the microwave in 30-second increments. For 1 can, it usually takes about 45 seconds to get completely melted in my 1000-watt microwave. Stir it up until it’s nice and smooth.
While the pies are still on the wire rack, pour the frosting over the top.
Optional: Take about 1/4 cup of the frosting out of the container and use food coloring to dye it a darker pink or red. Then drizzle this over the top of the frosting already poured.
Before the frosting dries, add sprinkles, if desired.
Let the frosting harden for an hour or so before enjoying. You can speed up this process by putting the pies in the fridge.
