These Red Velvet Hershey Kiss Chocolate Lava Cookies are so tasty. They’re made with HERSHEY’S KISSES Lava Cake Dark Chocolate with a Gooey Chocolate Center. These are always popular around Valentine’s Day, though I’m not sure if you can get them year round.

Everyone LOVES these cookies!
Everyone who first bites into one of these cookies moans every time – they are that good!
You can change these cookies up and mix in chocolate chips or even white chocolate chips into the batter like a typical chocolate chip cookie before chilling the dough. If you do that, you can still add the Hershey Kiss at the end or you can skip that part and just have red velvet chocolate chip cookie cups.

Red Velvet Chocolate Lava Cookies
Ingredients
- 2 2/3 cups all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons red gel food coloring (3-4 teaspoons liquid red food coloring)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 2 teaspoons vanilla (or white vinegar)
Instructions
- First combine the flour, cocoa, salt, and baking soda and mix it up. Set it aside.
- Next, beat the butter and sugars together until creamy with an electric mixer.
- Then, add the eggs and beat until light and fluffy.
- Next, slowly add in the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and beat until combined before adding more.
- Once it's all completely mixed in, add the red food coloring. Then, beat the cookie mixture until it's completely mixed in the food coloring.
- Add the vanilla and lemon juice and beat again until combined.
- Put the bowl in the fridge for about an hour.
- Unwrap the candies and put them in the freezer during this time.
- After you've chilled the cookies, preheat the oven to 350 F degrees.
- Spray the muffin tins with non-stick oil spray.
- Fill each muffin tin only halfway with the cookie dough.
- Sprinkle the red sanding sugar over the tops of each cookie dough.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes.
- As soon as the cookie cups come out, insert a HERSHEY KISS upside down into the center.
Notes
- I have used both fresh lemon juice and bottled lemon juice, both work fine. If you don't have lemon juice, you can substitute white vinegar.
- I prefer to use gel food coloring, which takes less since it's thicker. You can substitute liquid food coloring.
