A few weeks ago Walmart started putting out the Halloween candy and supplies, and I was so excited! I’ve already bought my Halloween candy. I found these adorable monster bags full of candy. Aren’t they cute?
These big bags are perfect for our busy neighborhood of trick or treaters. I know I’m not running out of candy this year! They were able to fill up my huge jack o’lantern basket!
This hanging jack o’lantern is an easy tutorial for Halloween. Usually for Halloween I buy fresh pumpkins and carve them, but I decided this year I was buying the fake carving ones so I can just pull them out year after year. Today I’m going to show you how to make a hanging jack o’lantern. This will get you in the Halloween spirit! What’s more Halloween than jack o’lanterns?

What do you need to make a Hanging Jack o’Lantern?
Supplies:
- 1 large fake pumpkin (craft store)
- fake pumpkin carving utensils (craft store)
- twine
- 2 cup hooks
- a bag of moss
- candle
How do you make a Hanging Jack o’Lantern?
I found specially marked little saws for the fake pumpkins. Honestly, I could not tell the difference between them and the ones for real pumpkins. Anyway, unless you like to fly by the seat of your pants, use a pencil to mark your pumpkin face. You’ll want a HUGE mouth.
Once you’re sure where you want the face to go, get to cutting. This took me a little while as it’s very hard on your hands. I had to take a break.
Once you’ve got it all carved, use an emory board to smooth out the rough edges around the mouth and face.
Next, break out the bag of moss and pull out a handful and position it in the mouth. Then, add a candle.
For Halloween, I’m going to replace the real candle with those fake battery operated ones, but for now, I like the rustic look of a candle.
Stand back and be pleased with your creation! Now it’s time to hang it!
Now take one of your cup hooks and twist it into the stem of the pumpkin. These only hold about five pounds or so, but these fake pumpkins are so light, it works fine. Hook another into the ceiling of your porch. Then, string up the pumpkin with some twine or thin rope, and you’re done!
When you head to Walmart to pick up supplies to make this fun hanging jack o’lantern, make sure to grab Hershey’s Candy special Halloween variety bags! It’s a must for the Halloween season and the perfect addition to your festivities!

That is so adorable. I’d be afraid to light the candle though so I’d probably use some sort of sand or pebbles in the bottom. I’ve just got to make one of these.
That is such a cool decoration. It’s easy enough to make, so I might get my craft on this weekend.
Oh my gosh your setup is so much cooler than mine. I love that Jack-o-lantern!
That is a cute hanging jack olantern. Really a nice idea. Perfect for the Halloween mood.
Using fake pumpkins is genius. I love the overall design, I can’t help but be excited for Halloween.
The candies are the ones that got me all excited. LOL. Seriously though, the pumpkin decor is really cute. I would have loved to see it lighted.
What a great idea! Makes a really cute, and perfect decoration! My kids would love to do a few of these!
That’s too cute! I love your halloween decor.
What a smart idea to put the hook on top to hang it. I’d have never thought of it but that’s nifty.
That is a very clever idea for the pumpkins, I think I’ll try that this year!
Thanks for sharing! My son is old enough now that he would really enjoy making some Halloween decorations.
Awesome design! I love that you have a place for candy!
Nice! You ‘re all set for Halloween decor. This is one cute hanging Jack O Lantern!
what an adorable pumpkin! Your front porch looks cute!
I love everything about this! I’ll have to recreate this on my doorstep.
Oh how fun!! You’re all set and so ready for Halloween! This is a very nice idea on our doorstep, I sure hope they only take just one! LOL
You got me really excited for Halloween!!! Where did you get the fake pumpkin from?
You can find carvable pumpkins at Walmart or craft stores. They are a lot cheaper at Walmart!
Seriously so cute! I could also see using something like this for candy! And wow! You’re right – that other pumpkin basket is HUGE – especially when you see it being FILLED with candy! I might be visiting your house 😉 #client
What a smart idea! I need to buy a fake pumpkin and do this – that way, I can keep and decorate year after year.
This is really cute! I bet my nieces would love to help me make one for their porch. I love the idea of the flame less candles inside.
Very cute AND creative! I love that idea. We don’t do much decorating for Halloween. We just throw some “fall” pumpkins on the porch. Lame, I know.
I wish I lived in a neighborhood where the kids would actually just take one piece. Lol.
