This Plum Dump Cake Cobbler is a deliciously easy recipe. It’s like a dump cake and it’s like a cobbler. And, the best part? You can switch out all kinds of stone fruits. I’ve used pluots. I’ve used plums. I’ve used apricots. It’s always delicious, and you don’t need to remove the skins of the fruit!
Scroll down and I show you have to make an alcoholic version using port!

Ingredients to make Plum Dump Cake
- 4-5 plums or pluots (or apriums or apricots)
- sugar
- half and half
- grape juice
- white box cake mix
- butter
Have you used pluots or apriums?
These are stone fruits that are crossed between plums and apricots. Pluots are more plum like, and apriums are more fuzzy apricot like.
My favorite way to make this dump cake cobbler is using pluots or plums. The colors are just gorgeous with the dark purple ones.
How do you make a Plum Dump Cake Cobbler?
Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with non-stick oil spray.
Melt 3 tablespoons of butter and drizzle throughout the entire pan.
Slice the plums up and remove the stone pits. They don’t need the skin removed, and they don’t need to be extremely thin sliced.
Place the sliced fruit evenly into the bottom of the pan.
Pour the sugar over all the plums.
Drizzle the grape juice over all the plums.
Sprinkle the cake mix over all the plums.
Drizzle the half and half over the cake mix.
Drizzle the rest of the melted butter over the half and half and cake mix.
Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown. If small amount of dry cake mix are still visible, it’s fine.
Remove and let cool for a few minutes.
Serve by itself or with fresh whipped cream or ice cream.
Make it with wine! Use port instead of grape juice and half and half
Port is a dessert wine. You can skip the grape juice and half and half and use 1 1/3 cups of port instead. If you don’t have port, you can substitute a sweet wine as well.
Use different stone fruits instead of plums
You can switch out the plums for other stone fruits. I have made this with different stone fruits, and I never remove the skins. You can even use frozen peaches or cherries.
Can you make this Plum Cobbler ahead of time?
Yes. I would recommend reheating each slice before serving. This dessert is just lovely when it’s fresh out of the oven or warmed up again.
How do you store the leftover dump cake?
I keep it on the counter for up to 1 day. Otherwise, I store it sealed in a container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
