Ingredients to make Taste Safe Sensory Bin
- 1 cup vinegar
- 3 different food dye
- 3 Ziploc bags
- 2 cups of old cereal (Kix, Lucky Charms, Special K)
- Variety of dry noodles
- Food Processor (or Blender)
How do you make a Taste Safe Sensory Bin?
Use a food processor or blender and crush all the cereal into a fine powder, so it looks like sand.
I use a cordless KitchenAid food chopper. I pulverize cereal in it all the time for more than just making a sensory bin, and it does an awesome job.
Take about a third of a cup of vinegar into a small bowl and add drops of blue food dye and stir. Keep adding drops until you get a dark, rich color.
These food dyes are made from vegetables and spices and don’t contain any artificial dyes.
Put a third of the dry noodles into a Ziploc bag and pour the blue vinegar into the bag. Shake to combine.
Repeat these exact same steps for green and red food dye.
Pour the noodles on a cookie sheet and leave overnight to dry out. You can have the noodles touching each other on the pan.
Once the noodles are dry, break apart any that are stuck together.
Pour the sand on a plate and let your child create their own coral reef!
