Do you like to go to the movies on Christmas Day? We usually are itching to do something by Christmas night, and it’s usually to a movie the whole family can see. If you’re looking for a new family movie, Spies in Disguise might be a great choice!
Spies in Disguise stars Will Smith and Tom Holland in a hilarious animated spy movie. I was invited to see the movie and take my kids in exchange for a review. We saw the movie about 10 days ago and loved it. I brought along my teenagers and 9 year old, but we left our 2 year old home.

What is Spies in Disguise about?
Super spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is … not. But when events take an unexpected turn, this unlikely duo are forced to team up for the ultimate mission that will require an almost impossible disguise – transforming Lance into the brave, fierce, majestic… pigeon. Walter and Lance suddenly have to work as a team, or the whole world is in peril.
This movie was so funny and had lots of sass. We laughed out loud so many times. The comedy in this movie was stellar. The humor was for kids and adults. Our favorite parts were with the pigeons.
What I liked about Spies in Disguise
There were a few themes that I loved in this movie. The first was being weird. Walter Beckett was a weird kid and grew up into a weird adult, and that was ok. I loved the message that there is nothing wrong with being a passionate person about something you love, even if it’s a little weird.
Another theme was all about STEM. Walter is an amazing scientist. He makes a lot of mistakes in his journey to discovery, but his inventions were so fun and amazing and didn’t really hurt anyone. They just tended to make huge hilarious messes.
The other message I loved was that’s okay to need other people and to have friends. Lance Sterling starts out with his catch phrase “I fly alone,” but through circumstances he realizes that he needs Walter. And, eventually they do become friends and partners.
What I didn’t like about Spies in Disguise
While there is no blood and gore in this movie, there is violence. There are a lot of guns and weapons in this movie, and as a spy movie, there are people who are actively wanting to kill and hurt Lance Sterling. I was glad my 2 year old did not come along with us because I think this movie is definitely too scary for toddlers.
With that said, I still think it’s a great family movie for tweens and teens and adults. And, it’s a perfect movie to go see as a family this holiday! Spies in Disguise comes to theaters on Christmas Day!
Spies in Disguise Snack Mix
We loved the pigeons in the movie. They were hilarious, especially the one with the lollipop stuck on his head. I got a little inspiration to make the kids a Spies in Disguise Pigeon Snack Mix. It’s full of colorful muddy buddies, Sixlets, and tiny Blow Pop candies (for the lollipop stuck on his head).

This is a conceptually interesting studio work that can be watched by the whole family with great interest. Blue Sky is well aware of its audience and, maintain interest to the film until the last frame. Troy Quane and Nick Bruno gave a delightful animated action movie from the studio Blue Sky, which will give a lot of emotions and joy to the child. Thanks for your review!
