Need a very last-minute gift that’s still thoughtful, cute, and useful? This Jean Pocket Picture Frame is the perfect upcycled craft. Using an old pair of jeans and a basic 8 x 10 frame, you can turn something headed for the donation pile into charming home décor that actually does something.

It’s quick, beginner-friendly, and makes a great gift for teens, tweens, dorm rooms, or anyone who loves casual, cozy style. It’s perfect for birthdays, Christmas, or any reason for gift-giving. You can even make one for yourself. I did, and I love it.
Table of Contents
Materials & Tools
- 1 regular 8 x 10 picture frame
- 1 old pair of jeans
Tip: Jeans with a sewn-on waist label work best - Double-sided tape
- Scissors

⚠️ I don’t recommend hot glue for this project—it can create bumps and keep the denim from laying smooth inside the frame.
Step-by-Step Instructions for making a Jean Pocket Picture Frame

Choose the Right Pocket
Look for a back pocket with character—extra stitching, worn denim, or a sewn-in waist label above it adds charm.
Cut Out the Pocket
Cut around the pocket, leaving enough surrounding denim so the fabric will completely fill the 8 x 10 frame opening.
Prep the Frame
Remove the glass and backing from the frame. You’ll be attaching the denim to the backing insert.
Attach with Double-Sided Tape
Apply strips of double-sided tape to the back of the frame insert.
Smooth the jean fabric onto it carefully, pressing from the center outward so it lays flat with no wrinkles.
Reassemble the Frame
Slide the denim-covered backing back into the frame and secure it as usual.
Voila! Your jean pocket picture frame is ready to hang or stand.
You can even include brand new sunglasses, lip glosses, lipsticks, a cute keychain, or so many other cute things to slip into the pocket when you give it as a gift. How easy is that?
