What do you need to make Chocolate Cake in the Slow Cooker?
You’ll need a few things to make this recipe. One thing you can substitute is sour cream instead of ricotta cheese. Using either ingredient, this cake tastes amazing! Here’s what you need:
- 1 box devils food cake mixâ €
- 3.9 oz chocolate instant pudding mixâ €
- 4 eggsâ €
- 16 oz ricotta cheeseâ €
- 3/4 cup oilâ €
- 1 cup waterâ €
- 12 oz bag chocolate chips ⠀⠀
How do you make a Chocolate Cake in the Slow Cooker?
As I said before, this is one of those that you can throw together. So, we’ll start out by mixing all the ingredients BUT the chocolate chips.
Once they are good and mixed, then beat the batter on Medium for 2 minutes so it’s nice and smooth.
Next, you’ll want to fold in chocolate chips. Now, you can use just 1/2 a bag of chocolate chips (6 oz), but I find that an entire 12 oz bag of chocolate chips is perfect. During the baking process in the slow cooker, they completely melt into the cake.
You’ll notice that this makes a lot of cake batter. So, you’ll want to use a 6 quart or 8 quart size slow cooker.
Make sure to spray your slow cooker with nonstick oil spray, so the cake doesn’t stick when it’s ready.
Transfer the batter to the slow cooker and then put the lid on.
Cook for 3 1/2 hours on HIGH or 7 to 7 1/2 hours on Low.
You’ll know it’s ready when the sides start to pull away from the walls of the slow cooker. Then, it’s ready to serve!
It’s best served warm, so I keep the slow cooker warmer on while we’re serving it.
We find it’s perfect served with a scoop of ice creaam.
Can you make a Chocolate Cake in the Slow Cooker ahead of time?
You should definitely make it the day you want to serve it as it’s best served warm. If you want to make it ahead of time, then cook is on low for about 7 to 7 1/2 hours instead of cooking it on high for a shorter time.
If it’s ready before you are ready serve, just set the slow cooker on Warm to keep it nice and ready for serving.
How do you store leftovers for this Chocolate Cake in the Slow Cooker?
You can store it in a sealed container in the fridge for a day or two. I personally don’t save it as I don’t think it’s as good as when it’s fresh out of the slow cooker.
