Ready for summer? I have one kid already out of school, one more is finished today, and the last one has to go til Thursday. He is not happy that he’s the last one in school. But, this recipe for Five Ingredient Crockpot Ribs always makes him happy for dinner.
Now that it’s nearly summer, it’s also grilling season. I hate heating up the house, so making things in the crockpot and on the grill are definitely favorites for me. Frequently, when I make a brisket for dinner, Nate likes to have ribs along with it.
This recipe is wonderful because you can fix it in the morning and have ribs ready to go for dinner time. And, you probably have all the other ingredients ready in your pantry.
These ribs are cooked and ready to serve straight from the crockpot, so you don’t have to do the extra step of grilling them. Nate likes to caramelize the sauce and add grill marks, so he runs them out to the grill and cooks them for just a couple minutes before putting them on the dinner table.
You can use whatever barbecue sauce you like, just buy enough so that you have some for dipping sauce for dinner time. Nate likes to add an entire bottle to the crockpot. Then, he adds an entire bottle all over them just before grilling, so we’re usually very low on bbq sauce when it’s time for dinner. I recommend you either buy a HUGE bottle or 3 bottles when making this recipe.
These are country style pork ribs, which usually go on sale at the grocery stores during the summer. My local Kroger had a sale during the week before Memorial Day for just $1.49/lb. They come as a big slab of ribs, usually close to 5 lbs. Using a large knife, just slice them along each rib to prepare them for the crockpot.Print
- 5 lbs pork ribs country style
- 1 large onion
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2–3 bottles of bbq sauce (16–18 oz)
- Slice ribs into 1 rib sections.
- Add ribs to crockpot. Just pile them on top of each other.
- Chop onion and add all over ribs.
- Sprinkle garlic and pepper all over ribs.
- Pour in 1 bottle of bbq sauce all over the ribs.
- Once the lid is on, set crockpot to LOW and cook for 6-7 hours.
- When you remove the ribs, the meat should be almost falling off the bone.
- Optional: Set outdoor grill on hottest setting.
- Pour another bottle or half a bottle of sauce all over the ribs.
- Then, space out the ribs evenly on the grill and cook for 1 minute on each side to caramelize the sauce and add those grill marks.
- Serve and enjoy!
