My husband and I are a bit on the gothic side. Well, at least I am. He only dresses like a goth on the weekend, when we go dancing at the goth club. But me? My favorite color is black. Most of the time, I tend to wear goth-style clothing with my combat boots. And, I have an entire wall that year-round is dedicated to what I like to call Farmhouse Occult like Ouija boards, skeletons, witchcraft, etc. This year I decided to add some shadow boxes full of creepy crawlies.

How to make a DIY Creepy Crawly Shadow Box
Remove the back of the shadow box and set the glass part aside.
Flip the backing of the shadow box so it’s right side up.
Hot glue the creepy crawlies to the backing.
Snake Shadow Box
Hot glue the snake in a spiral in the center of the shadow box.

Raise it’s head and hot glued it into place.
Add the printable labels. If you don’t like my labels, feel free to create your own. To make a label that looks scientific, here’s what you need:
- A scientific-sounding name.
- Date where you found “specimen.”
- Location where you found “specimen.”
For the snake I labeled it Shadow Viper with the scientific name Umbralis viperinus

I added both labels with hot glue.
Then allowed it to dry before placing it back in the shadow box.
Bats Shadow Box
For this one I went with two small bats instead of one larger one. Feel free to put as many bats as you’d like.

Remove the elastic to hang the bats.
I hot glued one bat facing anterior and one facing posterior.
I used the bug pins to hold their wings open.

I added labels.
For the bats I went with Vampire Bats and the scientific name Haemophagus nocturnus.

Place the shadow box back on the backing.
Crows/Ravens Shadow Box
I found these crows at Michaels, and wanted to make a bird shadow box.

I found a twig outside and cut pieces of it about 3/4 inch in size.

I hot glued the feet of each crow to twig pieces.
Then I hot glued the crows on the shadow box backing.
Now, this one was tricky because the crows were too big to fit into the front glass of the shadow box, so I just removed it.
Then it was time for labels.

The crows are called Midnight Crows and their scientific name is Corvus nigrescens.
Now you can hang them on the wall.
