My girls just LOVE the Disney Rapunzel movie. It’s their favorite princess movie of all time. They also love pretend play, so we made some DIY Rapunzel Hair, and you can, too! This post contains affiliate link.
Rapunzel is our favorite princess. We watch the Disney movie and tv show way more than I care to admit. And, we just love dress up pretend play.

What do you need to make DIY Rapunzel Hair for Pretend Play?
You don’t need much to make this. In fact, you might be able to find these items at the Dollar Tree, but you can definitely find them at any craft store.
We went with yellow craft yarn since Rapunzel has long blonde hair. But, you can totally make this any color hair you want.
How do you make DIY Rapunzel Hair for Pretend Play?
This is a totally easy craft that the kids can help you make. And, it’s so fun to wear Rapunzel Hair and whip it around.
You will either need another person to help you cut the long hair or use something tall and long or two kitchen chairs apart, like a 50-60 inches, or even a super long piece of cardboard. I ended up using the chair method.
For a really tall kid or even an adult, you could also use an open door and wrap the yarn around and around the door.
I measured 60 inches wide and put two chairs that far apart and wrapped the yarn around.
Wrap the yarn about 50-60 times around the knobs, chairs, or cardboard, etc. Then cut just one end of the yarn loops.
Cut one last piece of yarn that is the same length as the entire length of the yarn you cut. Then tie the very center of all the yarn with this piece and let the edges hang down with the rest of the yarn.
Take one side of the yarn and braid it for about 10-12 inches. If you’re able, measure this braid against your child’s head to make sure the length is about halfway around their head. Tie off the braid.
Do this for the other side of the yarn.
Get a small piece of yarn and loosely tie these pieces together and fit the braid around your child’s head. Adjust the braid as necessary. When the fit is to your liking, tie off the braids together tightly in a knot.
Take the long loose hair and make one big braid to the end. Tie it off wherever you’d prefer.
Take the felt or foam stickers and stick them all over the big braid, just how the little girls did in the movie to Rapunzel when she finally arrived in Corona. Add little barrettes or clips between the stickers.

Materials
- 1 skein yellow craft yarn
- 1 package of foam or felt flower stickers
- barrettes and clips
Tools
- Scissors
Instructions
- You will either need another person to help you cut the long hair or use something tall and long like a 50-60 inch long piece of cardboard or I ended up using the knobs on a dresser.
- I used our tallest dresser where the knobs were about 50 inches apart from the very top drawer to the very bottom drawer. Wrap the yarn about 50-60 times around the knobs (or cardboard). Then cut just one end of the yarn loops.
- I found it got too thick on our dresser knobs, so I did this in 2 parts and did 25 times around the dresser knobs twice and then put the yarn together.
- Cut one last piece of yarn the entire length of the yarn (so 100 to 120 inches long). Then tie the very center of all the yarn with this piece and let the edges hang down with the rest of the yarn.
- Take one side of the yarn and braid it for about 10-12 inches. If you're able, measure this braid against your child's head to make sure the length is about halfway around their head. Tie off the braid.
- Do this for the other side of the yarn.
- Get a small piece of yarn and loosely tie these pieces together and fit the braid around your child's head. Adjust the braid as necessary. When the fit is to your liking, tie off the braids together tightly in a knot.
- Take the long loose hair and make one big braid to the end. Tie it off wherever you'd prefer.
- Take the felt or foam stickers and stick them all over the big braid, just how the little girls did in the movie to Rapunzel when she finally arrived in Corona. If you have little barrettes or clips, you can add those as well.
