Cupcake Ingredients
These are basic chocolate cupcake ingredients. They are moist and delicious.
- 1+ 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp canola oil
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1 tsp vinegar

- Chocolate ganache
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- red M&M’s
- Edible eye candies
- Antlers made of chocolate
- melted chocolate chips
How to make these Chocolate Cupcakes
You can totally make these reindeer cupcakes with just a regular chocolate cake box mix and skip the homemade version, if you would prefer. Just move on to the frosting and decorating part of this recipe.
Whisk the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda together in a large bowl.
In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs, granulated sugar and brown sugar until it getspale yellow.• Add oil keep whisking then add dry ingredients.
Finally add buttermilk, vinegar and hot water, stir gently until just combined. Don’t over-miix.
Spoon the batter into the liners to fill just halfway.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow to cool completely before decorating.
How to make Chocolate Ganache Frosting
Heat the heavy cream in the microwave until hot, about 1 to 2 minutes. You can also do this on the stove, just heat the cream until just before it reaches a boil.
Pour it over the chocolate chips.
Let the cream and chocolate sit for about 3 minutes then whisk it all together until smooth.
Put the ganache in the refrigerator and let it cool for about an hour.
Whip the ganache with an electric mixer until it becomes light and fluffy.
When the cupcakes are completely cool, pipe the chocolate ganache frosting on each cupcake.
How to make Edible Antlers for Reindeer Cupcakes
Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper.
Take 3 tablespoons of chocolate chips and melt in the microwave in 30-second increments. Stirring after each time.
After about 30 seconds to 1 minute, the chocolate should be melted. Stir until it’s smooth.
Transfer the chocolate to a sealable plastic bag and cut off 1 corner.
Pipe 20 antlers onto the lined cookie sheet.
Place in the fridge or freezer for 5 to 10 minutes, until set.
How to Decorate these Reindeer Cupcakes
Add two candy eyes and one red M&M for the nose.
Insert two chocolate antlers.
