Are you a new plant parent? My college age daughter has fallen head first into raising plants since the pandemic started.
She’s recently moved back home to finish up her last semester of college, and her room is completely covered in plants. She just loves it. And, one of her favorite things is creating new pots from painting them to turning all kinds of jars and things into pots for her plants.
Did you know there are Facebook groups for things like take a plant, leave a plant groups? Locally, there is a lady who has a plant stand on the curb by her house where people leave all kinds of things from plants to cuttings to supplies for plants like pots.
In those groups, there’s plant purges where people sell their plants and meet up. I’ve probably driven my daughter half a dozen times around town to meet up and buy plants from people.

How do you paint a Watermelon Pot?
Pour small amounts of several shades of green acrylic craft paint onto a paper plate. (You’ll want at least two shades, but I like it best with 4).
Cover the lip of the pot with a medium green. Don’t forget to cover the very top edge! Let this dry, and then apply a second coat.
Next, dab the tip of the foam brush in any of the other greens, and again onto a clean area of the plate to remove the excess.
Dab vertical lines on top of the base coat to create the striped outside pattern of the watermelon. Repeat with each additional green paint.
Once the top is dry, cover the lower section of the pot with pink paint. Let dry and apply a second coat if needed.
Use the small paint brush to apply a light green line where the pink and green areas meet.
Draw small teardrops with black marker to make the watermelon seeds.
It’s optional if you want to add a little face.
Add eyes and a smile with a black marker.
Add a small white dot to the upper left of each eye with a white marker.
