How do you make these Puff Pastry Truth Teller Treats?
Puff Pastry Cups
Thaw the Puff Pastry Sheets on the counter until the dough is easy to work with.
When the dough is thawed, cut it into strips along the fold lines. I like to use a pizza cutter.
Fold each strip into thirds to make squares.
Cut along the fold lines with the pizza cutter to make the squares.
You should end up with 18 squares.
To make the cups, gently squeeze the two parallel sides of the square to pinch the opposite sides towards the middle.
Repeat on the other side.
Place each square into a mini muffin tin. Leave every other space in the muffin tin empty to account for the dough rising.
Bake at 400 degrees for 9-13 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
As soon as they come out of the oven, use the end of a wooden spoon and gently press the center opening because it will be very puffed up so it will hold the filling.
Allow to cool and then gently remove from the pan to a flat surface.
Making the Cheesecake Filling
While the dough is cooling, put the cheesecake filling, powdered sugar, whipping cream, and vanilla extract into a mixing bowl and whip it all together until fluffy peaks form, about 3-4 minutes. Leave a tablespoon of powdered sugar for dusting.
Get seven small bowls or ramekins and divide out about 2 tablespoons per bowl.
You’ll need 6 food colorings (as the natural white one will be “Winter Court”). Here are the Court colors:
- Night – Black or Very Dark Blue
- Spring – Green
- Summer – Turquoise
- Autumn – Orange
- Winter – White (no food coloring)
- Day – Gold
- Dawn – Pink
Each small bowl will be mixed with one of each of these colors.
I used sandwich ziplock baggies and placed the 2 tablespoons in the corner, then cut off the very edge and carefully piped the color into the very bottom of the center of 2-3 puff pastry cups.
Since you will have 18 cups and only 7 Court colors, you’ll end up with some courts only have 2 cups and some with 3.
Once each puff pastry cup has a color in the bottom, prepare a frosting bag with a star tip.
Fill this frosting bag with the rest of the uncolored cream cheese mixture.
Pipe a swirl from the center over the top of each puff pastry cup. This will hide the Court colors in the center of each one.
Transfer the puff pastry cups to a serving dish and sprinkle liberally with the powdered sugar.
What’s Your Acotar Court?
When someone bites into the puff pastry treat, the cream cheese filling will reveal their ACOTAR Court based on the color in their treat. Here’s the list of courts and colors:
- Night – Black or Very Dark Blue
- Spring – Green
- Summer – Turquoise
- Autumn – Orange
- Winter – White (no food coloring)
- Day – Gold
- Dawn – Pink
Can you make these ahead of time?
You can bake the puff pastry cups 24 hours in advance and keep them in a sealed container for freshness. But I would not assemble everything until a couple hours before the party and add the powdered sugar fairly close to when you’re guests arrive.
What do you do with the leftovers?
Since they have cheesecake and whipped cream in them, you’ll need to keep them in the fridge. Keep them in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
