Have you ever cooked food in your mason jars? I’ve had fun with it. I’ve made pizza and rice crispy treats and other things. One recipe I thought might work well in a mason jar is a variation of my Overnight French Toast. I call this one Mason Jar Chocolate Peanut Butter Toffee French Toast. It’s a mouthful, but it’s delicious!
I’ve been on a mason jar kick with drinks lately. It started a couple weeks ago when I whipped up a frozen toffee coffee drink with Heath Bar Coffee Cream from International Delights. I love the taste of Heath. Every time I open the fridge I see that coffee creamer, so I started thinking how I could use it with more than just coffee. That’s when I thought the french toast idea just might work.
I’ve seen them baked in the oven, and while they look delicious, they can also take 45 minutes to be ready. I wanted one I could make in the microwave for a quick school breakfast or midnight snack treat. After a couple of tries, I was able to perfect the Mason Jar Chocolate Peanut Butter Toffee French Toast to cook in just a couple of minutes!
For this recipe, I used pint-sized mason jars. One jar makes a good amount that’s perfect for sharing for dessert or even breakfast.
I was out of hazelnut spread, so I used a chocolate peanut butter spread. I found it at Aldi for a great price, and it can be quite addictive. The other day I found Molly standing in a chair in the kitchen with a spoon and the lid off the chocolate peanut butter with a big chocolate smile. I’ve had to hide it!
The Chocolate Peanut Butter Toffee version is very decadent and rich, but I’ve whipped up other flavors as well. So far, I haven’t tasted one I didn’t love.
I’ve made this mason jar french toast with fresh fruits like blueberries or sliced strawberries as well as jams, jellies, and preserves stuffed in the layers. I think my favorite is apricot preserves. I love the tart flavor! Strawberry or cherry preserves would be excellent choices, too! Using canned fruit like peaches or apricots would be wonderful as well.
If using canned or fresh fruit, I recommend packing as much fruit with the cream cheese layers as you can stuff. Then, once it’s cooked mixed it up to get the fruit everywhere.
Below is exactly how I made it. From start to finish, on a school morning, you can be sitting down to a hot breakfast in less than 10 minutes, and it’s easy for everyone to make their own variation with chocolate, fruit, or whatever!
In this recipe, it only took me 2 minutes to cook it in the microwave, but microwaves vary. Ours is pretty powerful at 1000 watts. You’ll want it to be hot all the way through and not a big mess of mush.

I love everything in this little jar and never would have thought about combining all of these things together; how sweet it is!
Is there a way to make this in the oven rather than the microwave?
