When my kids are hungry at breakfast or snack time, I like them to eat protein rich foods that will make them feel full and satisfied. I love to eat plain oatmeal, but my kids have never really liked the flavor — until I turned it into Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal with the help of Carnation Breakfast Essentials! Now it’s become of their favorite things to eat both for breakfast and after school snacks.
This is a quick and easy meal for breakfast before school or as an after school snack for kids or anytime! All you need is quick cooking oats, 2% milk, Nestle’s Carnation Breakfast Essentials – No Sugar Added – Rich Milk Chocolate, and whipped peanut butter.
In a microwave safe bowl combine cold milk and quick cooking oats.
Next, pour in the Carnation Breakfast Essentials.
Make sure to stir it up until the chocolate powder is completely mixed into it.
Now cook it in the microwave for about 1 1/2 to 2 1/12 minutes. We have a pretty powerful microwave, so mine was done in about two minutes.
Be careful removing it from the microwave because it’s hot. Then, add a tablespoon of whipped peanut butter and stir it up. I like to use whipped peanut butter because it’s lower calorie than reduced fat peanut butter and easier to stir up. Sometimes I just add a dollop on top and let my kids mix it up themselves.
It’s ready in less than 3 minutes and tastes delicious! The chocolate and the peanut butter make this is a definite kid favorite! Plus, I’ve calculated that one bowl of Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal has 372 calories and 15.5 grams of sugar. Here’s the exact recipe:
An easy breakfast for school mornings or a delicious snack for after school.

My teenager loved it, which is saying a lot. She usually doesn’t like oatmeal, but when I make the chocolate peanut butter version, she loves it for breakfast or after school for a snack before swim team practice.
