I was given free tickets to an early screening. A Minecraft Movie in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

A Minecraft Movie: Rated PG
Coming to theaters on April 4, 2025, The Minecraft Movie takes the wildly popular video game and turns it into a family-friendly adventure packed with heart, humor, and (of course) pixelated peril. If your kids are obsessed with Minecraft, this one’s definitely going to be on their radar.
The story follows four misfits—including Steve, the game’s iconic builder (played by Jack Black), a young boy named Henry, and his kindhearted nanny. Then there’s Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, played by Jason Momoa—a former video game champion from the ‘80s who discovers a mysterious cube that opens the door to the Minecraft universe.
When all these characters are pulled into the Overworld, they have to work together to navigate its quirky terrain, dodge danger, and uncover the power of imagination, teamwork, and second chances.
Parents can expect a movie with plenty of action, a few good laughs, and positive messages about courage, creativity, and connection. And yes—you’ll probably be asked to download Minecraft again on the ride home.

Who would love this movie?
Kids who have grown up playing Minecraft will love all the nostalgia. My 7 year old loved it. She also loved all the Minecraft stuff they had available at the concession stand – the Pick Axe popcorn, the special cups. My teenager and my college kid, who both grew up on Minecraft, loved the nostalgia and Easter eggs, but they felt the story in the movie wasn’t that great.
