Our family loves games. We play a lot from video games to board games and card games. I just love the fun back-stabbing card games.
You should see our world tours on Rockband! Sometimes on a Saturday afternoon, we all love to play Super Mario Brothers together, which totally brings out the sailor in me. I start cussing everyone who keeps killing me. This post contains affiliate links.
One of our favorite times to play games is during the holidays. Today I’m going to share our favorite card games. And, these aren’t your average Go Fish or Gin Rummy. Most of these are backstabbing fun, which can send all of us into a fit of giggles. Most of these games can be a bit tricky for anyone under the age of 7. These are perfect to play with your tweens and teens over pizza on a Friday night.
Blink Card Game
Blink Card Game The World’s Fastest Game
Blink is Uno’s cousin. This is a game that you can definitely teach a 3 or 4 yr old. This is a 2-player game that’s great for hand-eye coordination, and you might just get into a hand slapping game. In Blink, players must quickly try to match the shape, color, or number on the card to one of two discard piles. Whoever discards their cards first is the winner. It’s a bit like if War and Uno had a baby. Super fun and super fast!
Love Letter Card Game
I’d been coveting this game for awhile on Amazon. Then, I saw it in our local comic book store and decided to give my money to a small business instead. Nate, me, and Mr E went home right away and played it several times. After the first game, it’s easy to understand and then the backstabbing begins!
The goal of the game is to get your Love Letter to the princess who has locked herself away in the palace, but there are many people who will get in your way. There’s only 16 cards in the deck, and each player starts with only one card in hand. On your turn, you draw one card, and play one card which in doing so you can attempt to expose others and knock them out of the game.
Mille Bornes Card Game
My parents still have this game from the 1970s, and that’s where Nate and I learned to play. We loved it so much, we bought it at the store. This is the edition we have, which is listed as $60 on Amazon! I’m almost positive we found it at Toys R Us, Walmart or Target for less than a third of that price. There is a new edition, but apparently, it has a glaring printing error, and they don’t know when a second printing is going to happen.
This is a car racing game where your goal is to get 1000 miles. You work as teams. You can drive along pretty fast, adding up the miles, with extra tanks of gas. But, your opponents can throw things at you like flat tires, and you’re stuck not moving at all, until you get special cards like one for a spare tire. This one is totally fun!
Coup Card Game
Coup Card Game (The Resistance Universe)
This was a stocking stuffer I got my husband this past Christmas. It’s a game of bluffing, though you can win without lying. This is set in the distant future when the government is “for profit” and run by CEOs. You must bluff your way into power. We’ve played this as a 2-player game and as a 3-4 player game. I think it’s much more fun with more people because it’s easier for strategy and get your way to the top.
Loot Card Game
This game can be difficult for 10 and under. My son was 10 when we started playing this game, and it took him a little while to understand strategy. In the game, players take turns either drawing a card from the deck or playing either a merchant or one of four different colored pirate ships, in their hand. Each merchant or pirate ship has a set attack strength or value.
If you play a merchant ship then all of the other players have a opportunity to attack that merchant ship with a pirate or to place their own merchant ship. If a player attacks a merchant ship with a pirate, then no other player can attack with a pirate of the same color. The player who attacks the merchant with the most amount of pirate points wins it, and no one else has attacked in 1 round wins the merchant ship and the value. And, sometimes, you get lucky and no one attacks your merchant ship, which means you get the points.
When all the cards are gone and one player has run out of cards, the game ends and your points are added up for merchant ships (and deducted for what’s still in your hand). It’s not as easy as it sounds. You have to come up with strategies for when to play merchant ships based on what you think is in other people’s hands. It’s quite fun!
Saboteur Card Game
Now this is hands down our favorite game. When friends come over, they ask to play this game. It is so much fun, and the trash talking will begin on who is or isn’t the Saboteur based on what cards they’re laying down.
In this game, you’re a bunch of dwarves mining for gold. At the beginning of the game each person draws from a deck of dwarves. Depending on the number of players, there’s 1 or more saboteurs in the deck. There could be saboteurs, and there could not be, you never know as you keep your dwarf secret.
The dwarves are supposed to work together laying a path to get to the gold, which is hidden under 3 cards. There are action cards that let you break another dwarf’s lantern and other equipment. There are also cards where you can sneak a peek at one of the end cards to see where the gold really is.
If the dwarves reach the gold with their path, they all win gold, so it’s somewhat cooperative However, the goal of the saboteurs is to prevent the dwarves from reaching the gold. If the draw pile for creating the path runs out, then the saboteurs win the gold.

Can you believe I haven’t heard of any of these? I feel so dumb lol, I thought I was pretty up-to-date with the game night scene, but clearly not! I’m not sure many of these would work for us because my daughter is still young, but Blink looks promising 🙂
oh i am ot a cards game lover so unfortunatly i have to tell you that i dnt know ay of this games.but i am sure my l’l cousin know all of them. todays kids are very in to these kinds of things
These look really cool. I think its great to have family games for family events. My family’s favorite card game is Uno and we’ve been playing this for years. So it will be nice to introduce them to other games. Thanks
I haven’t played a card game in eons — so I have no idea what these games are. I know that’s pretty lame eh?! I’m forever stuck playing Angry Bird’s Trouble over and over and over LOL!! These sound really fun though for when my son is a bit older 🙂
I have not heard of any of these card games and we are big card game players in our house. I think that some of these really sound like fun. I will have to check out the more age appropriate ones for our upcoming game night. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve never heard of any of these games. I will definitely have to look for these next time I’m shopping. We have game night a couple nights a week, but we stick to monopoly, clue, poker, balderdash and games like that.
I have never even heard of most of these but they all look pretty cool. In our family, UNO is the go to card game. Everyone can play except for the littlest ones and we all enjoy the time together. We have all the different special edition versions that come in the collector’s tins.
Hi, Stephanie ~ I’m visiting from the Weekend Re-treat Link Party. Great post! We’re big game {esp. card game} players at our house, too. What a great way to have some fun with family time. I haven’t heard of most of these (yeah!), but Milles Bornes definitely brought back some memories. My parents used to play it with some friends of theirs. Talk about bringing out the sailor! :0) Thanks for the great suggestions.
I haven’t heard of any of these either, but they do look like fun! We are getting into the card games with our kids now, Ill be on the lookout for them to add to our collection.
Blink reminds me a little of Spit which I spent hours and hours playing as a tween. They all look like a lot of fun, I’m very interested in the Love Letter game and am going to look it up.
These all look like fun games for families to play.
?These are looks really fun, my grand kids would love these and they’re would be busy all day. Love this idea thanks.
These all look like fun games…I have not heard of any of them! We love to play Skipbo and Phase 10!
omg I must live under a rock because for someone like Myself who loves a good game night, I have never played any of these :-/ I’m going to have to change that really quick lol..
My kids are big fans of Uno. I’ve never tried this one, but it sounds like just what we need for an upcoming trip.
We LOVE Miles Bournes. So FUn!
We just played Uno yesterday. The first game went so fast we played another. Our second game took a verrrrrrrry long time, lol. I guess it’s just the luck of the draw. 😉 Happy to see your suggestions here, I think card games are fun.
I can’t wait until my so is old enough to play games like this. IN them meantime, we’re playing puzzles and starting to understand Candyland!
We always played card games as a family when I was younger but I was too competitive and used to get upset! Ha ha! The only one I really know how to play now is solitaire and so I think I need to brush up on my skills as my husband always beats me at Uno!
That looks like a lot of fun. Kids really get a lot out of that too.
These games would be great for our cottage getaways. We have no internet at the cottage and no cable, so this brings the family together and forces us to get in the game mode whether it’s badminton, board games, cards etc.
I’ve seriously never heard of any of these, but they sound like a lot of fun. My husband and I try to play some games together one night a week, so we’ll have to look for these.
Our family favorite card game was UNO for a very long time. Its simple to follow and easy to do!
I’ve been wanting some new card games that we could take on trips with us. I’m definitely getting Blink first, it sounds like a lot of fun for the kids!
I really like card games because they’re easy to bring along when we travel. I can’t believe I haven’t played any of these yet!
I’ve never heard of any of these, but I love games! My family and I have games nights, except we’re all adults. lol I think it’s great that you guys play games together. I have so many memories of playing card games with my family as a child. That’s why we’ve continued it even though I’m well into adulthood.
Also, I see that you’re coming to Dallas (Grapevine)! You’ll love the Gaylord and the area!
I have never heard of any of these games. We love family game night, we play a lot of yatzee and cards. We just moved down to Marco Island and love playing cards on the deck at night.
I haven’t heard of these before – so I will definitely have to tell my husband and brother about these things!
