This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of Orkin; however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) are the wave of the future. It’s vital to keep kids excited about it from the very beginning and do all we can to help them excel in these areas.
During the summer, I often find programs for my kids to pursue STEM programs. My oldest child went to camp at a college for forensic science this past summer where she learned to work crime scenes and test evidence, and my middle child attended a summer camp to learn to make video games and apps for mobile phones.
This year we’ve jumped right in. My 1st grader was already doing science experiments the first week of school. My high schooler plans to go into a STEM program in college, so she is taking two sciences – AP Chemistry and Anatomy and Physiology. She came home so excited for the small class sizes because the teacher plans to do lots of hands on experiments. There is nothing better than seeing that spark of learning in your child!
Every school year, kids just love the fun activities they do in classes like science and technology from the candy and soft drink experiments to learning about dialysis in chemistry. When they love what they’re doing, they really learn so much more. Orkin wants to help public school teaches all around the U.S. with their Start with Science Initiative.
Did you know? Orkin has donated more than $325,000 to fund over 1400 projects in more than 123,000 U.S. public schools! I had no idea!
You can help Orkin, too! You can search by city and state or zip code. You can choose a local school, your kids’ school, or even maybe a school your grandkids attend states away!
None of my kids’ schools had a project. But, a teacher at the school my youngest daughter will attend next year had one, so I donated to her project for new chromebooks.
Each project has lots of information of what they need and why. There’s also a cost breakdown of the project. When you donate, you can even add your address for handwritten thank you notes from the kids!
I liked that there are several payment options from credit cards to Paypal and Amazon payments.
To donate to a project of your choice, visit: http://www.orkin.com/learningcenter/start-with-science/
As a BONUS, I’m giving away a $50 donation to a project of your choice! Enter below and help students #StartWithScience! Good luck!
My daughter loves Science and I will have to tell her about this Orkin. MY son on the other hand hates science lol.
Fantastic! It’s so important to kid gets interested in STEM, and I love that Orkin is taking up the cause for science.
My kids love STEM projects!! This would be right up their alley for learning at home.
I think learning about science topics through hands on experiments helps to engage kids. It is a great way to making learning real.
love this article in regards to science. My son is four years of age and loves hands on learning and exploring the unknown
I wish that my older son was interested in stem projects. He does enjoy theater arts, which is a good skill to have. Maybe he won’t be afraid to speak in public when he is older. I have tried to get him interested in building a blog too so that he can start earning a passive income at an early age.
I have always loved S.T.E.M. I think it teaches kids a lot. We have some movies that are based off of S.T.E.M. I also want to get some projects that would be great for this.
Our son loves STEM projects and he loves talking about it and sharing about it with us. Kudos to Orkin for donating such amount. That is really awesome!
My oldest daughter would love this! Shes a science geek! I’m going to let her know about this so she can share it with her class.
This is awesome! I love it when learning is made fun.
Its great that Orkin wants to help keep the STEM programs going by donating to them. I would want to donate to The Microscopic World, Outside as this is a school in my area.
What an amazing giveaway! I think it’s crucial for kids to get into things like science at a young age – the younger, the better! I love donating to good causes, thank you for sharing this!
This is a great way to support education. I love that they accept Pay Pal.
I’d like to donate to a biology project.
I would donate it to https://www.donorschoose.org/project/a-child-called-it/2114110/ which would get matched by state farm.
I’d like to donate to a math or science project.
I’d love to donate to something to support active learners!
This is great! I had no idea about this website, and my kids school is even on there. I would love to use the $50 towards my daughter’s school.
What a great program! I’d love to support one that benefits animals in some way. I know I’d have fun searching for a project to help out. Thank you for a wonderful opportunity.
I’ll donate it to Mrs. Schott, Grades 3-5
Green Gables Elementary School
Thanks for the contest.
I would donate it to the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida.
They are such a wonderful benefit to the community!
I’d donate to Amelia Earnhardt in indio CA for tablets. My sons class has them and he has learned so much off the.
I haven’t heard of Orkin before.. My kids love science and I can’t wait to check out this site
I would like to donate to one of projects that allows kids to move while learning. Being the wife of a man diagnosed with ADHD very young and the mother on an ADHD 3 year old, I completely love the idea of having different kinds of seats in classrooms. I think it would really help these kids learn and be more successful in school and even later on in life!
My husband has ADD and was basically abused through school. At one point, they forced him to sit in a box in the classroom. I thought the different places to sit idea was awesome.
What a great idea and giveaway!
I’d like to donate to a biology project
I’d donate to my Autism project! https://www.donorschoose.org/project/autism-professional-learning-and-develop/2198855/?rf=link-siteshare-2016-09-teacher-teacher_1521530&challengeid=250500
I would donate to a VR Headset project.
I have a Donor’s Choose project for a STEM bundle for second graders!
I am a teacher with 3 projects on Donor’s Choose. My project for vocabulary professional development books has not had any donations and it expires in less than a month. I would probably donate to it with the gift card. https://www.donorschoose.org/project/fab-vocab/2023477/?rf=link-siteshare-2016-09-teacher-teacher_1647016&challengeid=20489220
I would donate to a project incorporating technology.
I am a teacher, and I would put it toward a project created by my students to get those light filters that look like clouds in a sky. The students do not like the harsh fluorescent lights, and they want to bring the beauty of the sky into our classroom. https://www.donorschoose.org/project/heads-in-the-clouds-learner-friendly-li/2183988/?rf=link-siteshare-2016-09-teacher-teacher_1031327&challengeid=189179
I would love to win this to help me with this project for my fourth-grade classroom.
I’d probably donate it to a science-type class project! Thanks for the chance!
I’d donate to either a reading project or special ed project
I love this. I had no idea Orkin was involved in a project like this. Thanks for sharing.
My friend works at an elementary school and she has a project for her kids. It’s on DonorsChoose.org already. I would love to support her. She’s a librarian like me! kristiedonelson(at)gmail(dot)com Thank you.
I would like to support reading.
I would support STEM
There’s a teacher at my own former middle school in the city where I grew up who wants copies of the novel The Outsiders for their lesson in gangs, fights & brotherly love. I would love to make a donation to her class’ request!
I would like to support clean water for all!
My niece is a kindergarten teacher in a high poverty area, she currently has a project for specialized equipment to help her students learn to use pencils (most have never held a pencil until starting school). This would double the donation I already made!
