Here’s what you need to make a Jack o’melon
- Watermelon
- Pineapple
- Canteloupe
- Knife – not a huge butcher knife, but a smaller one
- LED votive candles
How do you make a Jack o’melon?
Believe it or not, this is way easier than a pumpkin jack o’lantern.
First, print out the stencils and cut out each piece. They make this easier.
Next, cut the bottom of the watermelon (or pineapple, etc.) off, so it can sit flat.
We found using a smaller knife worked way better at doing the carvings.
Working from the bottom, just cut out all the inside watermelon. But leave the rind.
Save the watermelon and make something yummy from it.
Cut each eye, nose, and the mouth with the knife.
When you’re done, set an LED votive candle down and then set the watermelon over it.
How early can you do this?
We let our jack o’melon sit for three days, and it worked fine. Though, some fruit flies found it on day 3. That’s when we tossed it.
