I attended a free screening of this movie to facilitate my review. All opinions are my own.
My kids have been waiting for the Captain Underpants movie for months now. My son read the books when he was younger and loved them. So, they were absolutely thrilled when I told them we were getting to see it a week early for this review.
They do quite a bit of back story for Harold and George at the beginning of the movie, and there weren’t a lot of funny parts there. My husband and I both felt like it got off to a slow start where you learn all about Harold and George. Once they got into the story with turning Mr. Krupp into Captain Underpants and then discovering their nemesis, Professor P, it was fast paced and hilarious.
We saw the movie in 2D, but I think it would definitely be a little more intense seeing it in 3D as there are some crazy monster inventions in this movie.
Kids love this movie. There’s quite a bit of bathroom humor, even with monster toilets coming after Captain Underpants and the name of a certain villain, once it’s revealed. That was my kids’ favorite part, LOL! I’m not much for that kind of humor, but I found myself giggling at quite a few parts in this movie.
There were just as many parents laughing as there were kids. I love a good kids animation movie that has some adult humor that goes right over the kids’ heads, which this one did.
This is definitely a great movie to take the kids during the summer. They’ll love it, and you’ll be laughing, too.
Here’s a plot synopsis: Based on the worldwide sensation and bestselling book series, and boasting an A-list cast of comedy superstars headed by Kevin Hart and Ed Helms, DreamWorks Animation brings audiences the long-awaited global movie event, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie.
