Just in case you missed my most recent contributor post over at A Peek Into My Paradise, this is a repost of it. I think you’ll love these cupcakes! I know I do.
This time I’ve brought you something really fun! I’ve had a series on The TipToe Fairy for a few months where I make some crazy cupcake flavors adapted from simple boxed cake mix. With Halloween fast approaching, I thought a Halloween version of my crazy cupcakes would be great to share.
You’ll really be able to sink your teeth into these cupcakes!
If you’re having a Halloween party, these Blood Sucking Cupcakes will be a big hit at the party. Or they would make a great gift for your favorite vampire or Twilight fan.
These are made from a basic white cake mix. The cake batter is dyed blood red. Then, after the cupcakes have cooled, they are filled with strawberry jam. They are topped with buttercream frosting. Finish them off with some bite marks, and ooze a bit of strawberry jam from each one to get the full vampire effect.
Blood Sucking Cupcakes
1. Mix all ingredients on low until well combined.
2. Turn speed to medium and beat for an additional 2 minutes.
3. Add food coloring to get the bright red color. I used Americolor soft paste gel in Red and used two squirts. Then, mix until well combined.
4. Fill each cupcake paper 2/3 full.
5. Bake for 15 minutes until done. Allow to cool before decorating.
Filling/Topping
Strawberry jam
1. Add 2 1/2 cups of strawberry jam to a bowl, then mix with a squirt of red food coloring to give it more of a blood coloring.
2. With a large round frosting tip, fill a pastry bag with 1 1/2 to 2 cups of strawberry jam for filling.
3. After cupcakes are cool, insert the tip about 1 inch down into the cupcake middle and squirt about a tablespoon of jam into the cupcake.
4. Fill another pastry bag or ziplock with 2-3 tablespoons of strawberry jam. Do not add any decorating tip. When it’s time to add the blood to the bite marks, just snip a tiny corner off.
Buttercream Frosting
1 cup of butter (2 sticks), softened
8 oz cream cheese, softened
3-4 cups of powdered sugar
4-5 tbs milk
1. Beat butter until it’s fluffy and lighter in color.
2. Add powdered sugar 1 cup at a time on medium low.
3. After 3 cups of powdered sugar, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time. Check the consistency and add more powdered sugar as needed.
4. Use a star tip to pipe swirls onto the cupcakes.
Finishing the bite marks!
1. Take a small round frosting tip and pierce the frosting all the way down to the cupcake. Carefully pull the tip out so that it stays in the conical shape of a fang mark. Do this again about 1.5 inches from the first fang mark.
2. Take your little pastry bag of strawberry jam and snip just a tiny bit off the end. Then insert the tip into each fang mark and drizzle strawberry jam from inside the fang mark on down the side of the cupcake as shown.
3. For presentation, you can drizzle more “blood” around the cupcakes.
Enjoy!!
