I’ve just made it into the 2nd trimester of my 4th pregnancy. When most of us think of pregnancy, it’s usually a beautiful baby bump and a glowing mommy. Â Then, you quickly learn pregnancy is not all it’s cracked up to be. While it’s worth it in the end, it can be a little messy in the journey. Â It’s been almost 7 years since I was pregnant, and I have forgotten a few things about pregnancy.
#1 Morning sickness is not just for mornings. I get all day sickness. There are days I bring a bucket in the car while I drive my kids around because I can feel it coming.
#2 All the crying. You will cry over the littlest things. Facebook posts, television commercials, even thinking about my kids growing up send me to tears.
#3 Pregnancy brain. You will forget everything. I literally have post-it notes everywhere. And, I keep a million alerts in my phone for appointments. I can remember nothing lately.
#4 Sensitive breasts. Oh my gosh! The pain is so bad. Just taking my bra off for the night hurts, not to mention if one of my kids accidentally bumps into my chest. I feel like wrapping it in bubble wrap daily.
#5 Crazy dreams. You will have some strange ones. Just recently, I had a dream where my husband and I were going apple picking, and we had to crawl through an obstacle course to get to the apple trees. Â In the dream it seemed perfectly normal that I had to crawl through an obstacle course while hugely pregnant. Or, there was another dream when we were driving and fell off a highway bridge, and I remember thinking, “Well this is just great.” Crazy!
#6 Enhanced sense of smell. You will not believe how your sense of smell will change, and it will stay for a few weeks after pregnancy. I can no longer feed my dog because the smell immediately brings on nausea. I get whiffs of the strangest things. My daughter was coloring on construction paper, and the smell of crayons and paper was driving me nuts. It smelled just like chili to me. This one lasted well after the babies are born for me. Â With my first baby, my mother-in-law came over and cleaned our house and did all the laundry. She changed our laundry detergent because we were out, and she couldn’t find ours at the store. I literally went crazy trying to figure out why my bed smelled weird until she told me.
#7 The length of pregnancy. I swear the first and second trimesters drag on, but that third trimester seems like it takes FOREVER. Starting around 32 weeks, I feel like I’m going to pop, and I cannot wait to hold my little one.
#8 All the leaking! I don’t care how many kegels you do, you will wet your pants from just a cough, laugh, or even a sneeze, especially the more pregnancies you’ve had. Light Bladder Leakage (LBL) is a real thing, and you will experience it. With this baby, I have to wear a pad every single day. If I don’t, I end up changing my underwear and pants at least once or twice a day.
Recently, I switched to Poise Microliners when previously I had been using regular menstrual pads, which were big and bulky. With Poise MicroLiners, I feel confident and secure knowing I’m protected from LBL.
Especially during the busy holidays full of school events for the kids and visits with family and friends, I don’t have time to worry about LBL. You shouldn’t either! Poise MicroLiners let you mark that worry off your list. During the holidays, when you’re headed to Walmart, purchase Poise MicroLiners so you can have a worry-free holiday season.
Have you ever discovered something about pregnancy you had no idea about until you were pregnant?

Oh my gosh, the sense of smell. When I was pregnant, things that I normally found mildly offensive made me want to vomit. It was AWFUL.
Oh my gosh I had the craziest dreams when I was pregnant! I would member wake up in the morning going OK that was different LOL. People do not warn you of these things. I love this post.
I totally related to the sense of smell and morning sickness. I never got sick my entire pregnancy. I was nauseous the entire nine months. I’d rather get sick and get it over with! LOL. Sense of smell? I couldn’t go anyplace that was burning wood. Passing a BBQ or bonfire made me feel horrible! We would have to go in the other entrance of our neighborhood because at the main entrance, there was a wood burning restaurant!
For me, pregnancy brain was the worst. Plus it lasts even after you’ve had the baby. It’s like I left part of my brain in the delivery room.
The one tip I can tell you is that you are never prepared enough for teenage children! Wow! It is such a rollercoaster each and every day. I never had crazy pregnancy dreams, but I did experience many other things on your list.
Yes! All of it. Lol. I do not miss pregnancy brain one bit. I felt so scattered. But they’re worth it..
I hated being pregnant from beginning to end. I am not one of those women who loves it, just the end result.
True about the crying. I am one of the lucky ones who never experienced morning sickness for both of my pregnancies.
I remember my wife having many of these issues and concerns and she did not have your post to warn her. Great post and I hope that many other moms to be find this!
When my mom was pregnant of my youngest sister she actually got more morning sickness than with the rest of my siblings. And your right it wasn’t just in the morning.

My third pregnancy was very hard compared to my first and second. I got prego brain, lbl (still have it now ), crazy dreams and more. One of my dreams that I had was a few days before my gender sonogram and it was a boy. Well sure enough, I found out that I was having a boy.
Then in those last few weeks, I had a dream I was having him and pushing. I woke up feeling like I was trying to push. Thankfully, he didn’t budge…lol
If only they told me all these things when I way pregnant with all of my children.
Pregnancy brain is real, yo! Sadly it never went away!
So many things I wish I was told before I was pregnant! My morning sickness went all day and night… from 3 weeks along all the way to the delivery room.
Love this post – it reminds me of when I was pregnant with my boys!
There are a few surprises! People always tell you what it is like and you don’t (really) believe them until it happens to you!
Congratulations! I’m pregnant with my third. Lately, I have been reminded that morning sickness doesn’t happen on mornings, but all day for me, too.
I love okra, but then when I got pregnant, I didn’t even want to look at it. That was weird. I surely had no idea what was the explanation to that. 🙂
For me I know the heightened sense of smell and all day sickness went hand and hand. I just always reminded myself of what the end result was and soon enough all these would be forgotten.
Oh man, the morning sickness and the insomnia! They also don’t tell you how truly uncomfortable pregnancy is!!
