My SIX Essential Packing Tips for Kids

Next week is Spring Break!  We are headed out for a few days of relaxation at a waterpark resort.  We’re all very excited!  The big chore before leaving on a fun-filled trip is always packing.  Sometimes it can feel overwhelming, but if you keep a checklist handy, you can get it covered in no time.  I’ve got a few packing tips to help you along the way.

#1  When comes to kids, always pack 2 extra outfits more than you think you need.  We’re going on a 3-day trip, and I’m packing five outfits for my youngest.  She plays hard and it shows, so it’s nice to have something extra just in case.

We just took a quick trip to the OshKosh B’gosh store and picked up the cutest outfits for her for our trip.  Their spring kids fashion is just adorable!

#2 Pack each outfit together including socks and undies.  This way if someone else helps them dress or if they’re dressing on their own, they will find it all easily.  No more, “Mom! Where’s my underwear” questions.  This helps my husband tremendously so he doesn’t need to bother me when he’s dressing the kids, and I’m making sure we’ve got everything to take for the day.

#3 Always bring along something for the plane ride or car ride.  We bring a favorite stuffed animal, coloring books, the iPad, and favorite picture books.  I love to pick up a few surprises they don’t know about such as a new book or new crayons  This always keeps them entertained longer.

#4 Headphones for kids are essential.  With my daughter’s favorite shows, we all eventually get tired of hearing the same theme songs.  A good pair of headphones that fit little ears is the key to making everyone happy.

#5 Don’t forget chargers for your electronics.  I take one big zipper bag and have each kid put all their chargers in it, and I pack it in my bag.  This way I can keep count and make sure we do not  forget any in the hotel room.

#6 Pack each child a snack kit for the road trip or airplane ride.  This keeps all three of mine entertained. I pack each child a surprise bag of snacks that I know are their favorites — usually a mix of both healthy and not so healthy.  They love digging through their bags and finding what I’ve packed for them.  It keeps them satisfied, and we don’t have to stop so often.
