Have you ever tasted fresh figs? My husband’s Grandma Jelly has a big, beautiful fig tree in her backyard. Nate remembers going out there as a kid and filling up on fresh figs, straight off the tree. Most people have probably never had a fresh fig. Figs can be delicate, so fresh ones can be hard to find in the grocery store. But…they are so worth it when you can!
On our road trip this summer, we spent the afternoon at Grandma Jelly’s house, and she sent us home with two big bags of fresh figs. I have so many plans for these delicious things, but first I was excited to try Chef Curtis Stone’s Spice Roasted Figs with Hazelnuts and Vanilla Ice Cream. It’s a very simple dessert that will totally wow your family and friends. I could not wait to share it with my husband. Fresh figs are some of his favorite treats.
Breyers is celebrating its 150th birthday with celebrity Chef Curtis Stone and his wife, actress Lindsey Price Stone. They’ve created 12 recipes, one for each month of the year, featuring Breyer’s Natural Vanilla ice cream. It’s a special way for families to celebrate birthdays and special occasions all year long! Breyers was founded in Philadelphia in 1866 when William A. Breyer hand-cranked his first gallon of ice cream, which featured fresh fruits and nuts, and sold it to his neighbors.
Breyers is committed to high quality ingredients which has been on the package for more than 100 years. Breyers Natural Vanilla is also America’s #1 vanilla ice cream, and it’s made from fresh cream, milk, and sugar. Breyers only sources milk and cream from cows not treated with artificial growth hormones.* All Breyers vanilla is real and from sustainably farmed, Rainforest Alliance Certified™ vanilla beans.
You can make the figs ahead of time and serve them warm with the ice cream. This recipe will serve 4 and takes about 10 minutes.
These spiced figs are so easy to make. You simply mix up the sugar spice mixture and dip fig halves into it. Then, broil them for just 4 minutes until the sugar starts to caramelize.
I blanched and toasted my own hazelnuts. When you head out to buy the ingredients, sometimes hazelnuts are called filberts in the grocery stores. It’s fairly easy to blanch them, and you can find several tutorials to do it yourself. After they were blanched and the skins were removed, I toasted them for 20 minutes and then coarsely chopped them.
This recipe is incredibly delicious! It’s so simple, but it has these amazing complex flavors from the hazelnuts to the spices. It all just combines with the ice cream into one sophisticated dessert. My husband loved it!

I have never actually tried Figs before but I would so much this dessert down in one go. I love ice cream and have it year round.
When I was growing up, my mom would take us over to our neighbor’s house to pick fresh figs and I loved eating them, even as a kid. Mom would always make fig preserves. That dessert looks amazing!
My Mom used to make the best Strawberry Fig preserves ever! My daughter just made some last week and I’ve already eaten most of the jar! They don’t actually have strawberries in them, just the strawberry jello.
Breyers is popular at our house too. We have some in the freezer right now!
This sounds really good! I wish we still had our fig tree in our backyard so I could make this.
I am not a fig fan, but my hubby would love these! He LOVES figs!

We’ve always eaten Breyer’s Ice Cream as a special treat and now that we’ve discovered my wife is allergic to corn, it’s our go to. Can’t beat the old school original flavors.
