I am a total book nerd, and my absolute favorite genre is science fiction. I tend to gravitate towards time travel, time bending, parallel worlds type books. If these are some of your favorite things to read about, you’ll really enjoy a few of these:
The Themis Files – what would happen if our government found gigantic metal body parts buried below the surface all over the world — and then, they put them together? That is the beginning premise of this amazing trilogy. I devoured book #1 and #2 and am waiting not so patiently for book 3.
This is the second book in the series.
I cannot wait for the 3rd book in the trilogy for the conclusion:
This is the latest novel from the author who wrote The Martian, that later become the movie The Martian with Matt Damon. I loved The Martian and this one was totally different and great, too. It’s about a 20-something girl who has lived almost her whole life in the first moon colony. She’s a petty criminal, but things hit the fan when she gets involved in a huge conspiracy.
Do you remember the alien movie, Arrival, with Amy Adams? She is a linguist who goes to work with these aliens in their ship to learn how to communicate. That movie was based on the short story in this book called Story of Your Life. If you’ve seen the movie, you’ll really enjoy reading the story it’s based on. It has so much more to it and fills in blanks to the movie.
This is the story of OASIS, a completely online world where everyone escapes and where the founder of it hid easter eggs in 1980s pop culture with the keys to his fortune.
Next month, this book will be a new movie from Steven Spielberg! Watch for a fun-themed drink I’ve got coming to celebrate the movie release.
The first book in the Southern Reach Trilogy, Annihilation, is about to be released as a movie with Natalie Portman in a few weeks. This is a bizarre and fascinating story about an area somewhere off the coast that has turned into something we can’t understand.
This is the second book in the Southern Reach series that continues with another point of view from the new director of the Southern Reach.
This is the final book in the series. I did not enjoy it as much as the first two. In reviews I have read, people loved it, but I felt it just didn’t wrap up the entire story conclusively.
This is all 3 books of the Southern Reach trilogy in one book:
This is the newest book from Jeff VanderMeer, who wrote the Southern Trilogy. He writes these weird and amazing stories, so I cannot wait to sink my teeth into this one when it comes out:
This is the story of Mike Erikson who has an eidetic memory and is one of the smartest people on the planet, but he chooses to just be an average school teacher…until one day. His friend from DARPA recruits him to try out this new device they have invented that they “think” just creates wormholes to teleport you quickly from one place to another. But does it?
This is a Huck Finn kinda book with a teenage black boy named City growing up in Mississippi in current time except he gets this book without an author about a boy with the same name who is just like him, but this City grew up in 1985! Next thing you know, he and his friend are able to time travel forward and backward to save a family in the 1960s from the Klan. It’s a great book with two stories interwoven together of the two City’s.
I read this one in one day because I just couldn’t put it down. This is the story of Tom, from another alternate reality, where they’ve solved everything – no war, no poverty, no Donald Trump for president, etc. But he has a time machine and accidentally gets stuck here with us and things get messed up so that his reality will no longer exist. It read like a great time travel memoir. I just couldn’t wait to find out how or if the timeline was repaired.
This book is also about to a new movie release this year. I just started reading it and am loving it so far. This is the story of A, who is never the same person twice. A moves from body to body until he meets a girl he falls in love with, and every time he switches bodies he has to find her again and again to convince her they’re meant to be.
If you love reading, check my Amazon page periodically. I love sharing the new books I’m reading and discovering. Right now, there’s a ton of books over there you have to read before they become movies this year.
