Now that’s it’s Back to School time, I have to keep stocking up on school breakfast and lunch foods. The other day I was grocery shopping in my favorite store — Target, and I saw NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® Powder was on sale. Do you remember drinking Nesquik as a kid? I sure do. It was my favorite drink. I loved drinking it as cold chocolaty milk or creamy hot chocolate.
My youngest daughter loves to drink warm milk before bedtime, and she loves chocolate milk. I know she’d love to try Nesquik, so I had to bring it home for my kids. Did you know Nesquik has 45% less sugar than the leading chocolate syrup brand, and it has no artificial colors or flavors? Plus, it contains 7 essential vitamins and minerals.
With back to school time, I try to vary what I make and buy for school day breakfasts. We all get sick of cold cereal after awhile. One of my kids’ faves to have before they start the school day is farina, which is a smooth porridge-like hot cereal made from wheat. It’s something I’ve been eating for breakfast since I was a kid, too.
My kids love when I make something chocolate flavored, so I thought making their farina with Nesquik flavored milk might be a tasty before school breakfast.
To get started, I make a glass of Nesquik chocolate flavored milk, and measure out the farina into a microwave-safe bowl.
Next, I add 2/3 cup of the Nesquik flavored milk to the farina and stir up. Then, I microwave it. Be careful when you microwave it because milk will boil fast. Microwave for 45 seconds and then stir, and then microwave for 45 additional seconds and check it.
When it’s no longer soupy, it’s done. I like my farina a little thicker, so I sometimes let it go another 15-30 seconds just to thicken it up. Then, I add a pat of butter and mix it up.
