I attended a free screening in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own.
The new Disney Pixar movie Elemental is an enchanting sweet romantic movie that beautifully captures the magic and complexities of falling in love between two people from different backgrounds. Using the elements, the film explores the relationship between a fire girl, Ember, and a water boy, Wade as they fall for each other.

Our Review
I took my three daughters to see the movie. True to Pixar movies it has something for everyone. There’s jokes for kids and for grownups and a story that entertains everyone.
It’s a timeless story about a second-generation immigrant young woman, Ember, who is trying to live up to what her parents want, when she meets Wade, a boy made of water. Her whole life she’s been told that elements don’t mix, especially Fire and Water. And, being with him, she starts to doubt everything she knows as they fall for each other.
What sets this movie apart is its ability to transcend from just a cartoon to deliver a universal message about love and acceptance. It explores themes of social barriers, prejudice, and the courage to defy expectations for the sake of true love. Through Ember and Wade’s relationship, the film encourages viewers to question societal norms and the impact they have on personal happiness.
We laughed and we cried. We got seriously emotionally invested in these characters. My 23 yr old and I both cried multiple times. It’s so good! So good! We all loved it. I cannot wait to see it again!

The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in.
The voice cast includes Leah Lewis as the fiery Ember; Mamoudou Athie as the water-guy Wade; Ronnie del Carmen as Ember’s soon-to-be retired dad, Bernie; Shila Ommi as Ember’s love-seeking mom, Cinder; Wendi McLendon-Covey as Wade’s stormy and Air-Ball-loving boss, Gale; Catherine O’Hara as Wade’s welcoming mom, Brook; Mason Wertheimer as Ember’s admiring neighbor, Clod; and Joe Pera as an overgrown city bureaucrat, Fern. Directed by Peter Sohn, produced by Denise Ream, p.g.a., and executive produced by Pete Docter, “Elemental” features a screenplay by John Hoberg & Kat Likkel and Brenda Hsueh with story by Sohn, Hoberg & Likkel and Hsueh.
See the new short Carl’s Date
“Elemental” opens with Pixar’s all new short, “Carl’s Date,” in U.S. theaters on June 16, 2023 and includes Dug, my favorite character from any of Pixar’s movies where Carl gets ready to go on a date for the first time. This one brought me to tears, too.
When can you see Disney Pixar “Elemental?”
Only in theaters starting June 16th, 2023!
