Just like humans, our pets can have dietary issues. Our Boxer dog, Hank, has had some sensitive stomach issues. Boxers are notorious for having digestive issues. After some help from the vet and doing our own research, we decided to make some changes to help Hank feel better.
#1 We stopped chew bones of any kind. He’s not allowed rawhide or dental bones. Instead, we make sure he has plenty of his favorite toys to chew on.
#2 We decided to put him on daily probiotics to help his digestion. When we prepare his food, I add a probiotic into each meal.
#3 We stopped all dog treats and switched him to small grain free dog treats. Hank loves the Supreme Source® Salmon treats, and I love that they are made in the USA and only 3 calories per treat.
#4 We don’t allow him to go for a walk or play until about at least an hour after his meal so his food has had adequate time to digest.
#5 We did a couple of things with his food. First, we started really paying attention to dog food options and labels. We decided a grain free dog food such as Supreme Source® would be best for him. I really liked that in addition to the probiotic we are giving Hank, Supreme Source is packed with healthy enzymes and prebiotics to cleanse and rejuvenate both inside and out.
They recently started carrying it at Albertsons, so that’s where we picked up a bag of Supreme Source Grain Free Turkey Meal & Sweet Potato Dry Dog Food. You can also find it at Food Lion, Safeway, Stop & Shop, Giant Eagle, Hannaford, DeMoulas & K-Va-T, Smiths or Frys.
Secondly, we started feeding him smaller portions three times a day and using smaller food bits. That’s one thing I like about Supreme Source, that it’s made in smaller bits, which I think helps him digest his food easier. It’s also grain free. Supreme Source has no corn, no wheat, and no soy, and it contains no artificial flavors or colors. Plus, it’s a superfood and has a healthy blend of fruits and veggies, which are natural sources of potassium, fiber, vitamins and minerals.

I love your dog – such a cutie. This sounds like an awesome brand of dog food. I will have to tell all my friends with dogs about it.
Boxers are terrific dogs. My Mom’s just passed after 13 years. Hank is handsome, his coloring is unique. It’s great that you found a food that you’re pleased with and he likes.
You have a great looking dog! This sounds like tasty food for him. We just have two cats, and I like to serve them food to keep them as healthy as they can be!
We have three dogs, and I always make sure that they are eating some of the best, but affordable food. We also tend to serve ours smaller bites, as opposed to the larger chunks. Even our lab likes the smaller pieces.
I would love to share this post to friends with dogs. It’s really nice to be able to help improve their digestion and their health in general.
My old dog had major digestion issues and we had to really cut back on anything that had greens in it. I’m glad they now have grain free food and I wish that was around when my dog was around. It would’ve helped us a whole lot.
We read the labels on foods we purchase for our pets. I want to make sure I’m getting foods with the highest levels of nutrition to keep them healthy and strong. Wish this pet food switch was available near me as we would totally try the detox for our doggy.
Our dog cannot eat anything with grain. If he eats something with grains in it, his skin starts to itch. It is sometimes a challenge to find dog food that is great tasting and grain free. I will have to see if they sell Supreme Source here. I know my dog would love that salmon flavored treat.
Such a cute dog! Food and the digestive system of our fourlegged friends is super important. Looks like a great food.
It’s so important to make sure your dog is in the best possible health. They’re like part of the family. We feed our dogs three times a day too, for digestion.
These are some great tips, my dog has a bad digestive system and we have to be so careful with her. It is definitely important to look after it as best as possible.
That’s great how you have a solid routine for your dog. I don’t have a dog, and I don’t know that I would have realized all these things. Good to know as a pet owner that there are ways to make our pets as healthy as possible.
Their digestion is very important especially for senior dogs. I think these tips are great and it’s good to find a brand of dog food that helps take care of your dog’s nutritional needs as well.
The digestion of dogs probably is an indicator of their health just like in humans. These are great ideas to help here. Though we do not have dogs this is useful information we will share with friends who do have dogs.
My dog has a great diet of no grains and rice. She is a meat and veggies dog (in her food) not raw. She’s never had an issue with digestion. She is our baby!!
Grain free is the best way to go. Our beagles have great health routines when it comes to eating.
What a cute dog! We don’t have one yet but this is great info for when we do.
