My youngest is 3, and she loves nothing more than to help Mommy in the kitchen. It doesn’t matter what I’m making. If she sees I’m in the kitchen, she runs in and pulls up a chair right next to me and begs to help. My older children were like that at her age, too. I love this time, when they want to learn so much about the world. I am always looking for ways she can do things herself so she can feel that independence that she wants.
One of those ways is making her own food and drinks. She loves to make chocolate milk with our homemade chocolate syrup, and she needs just a little help from Mommy in pouring the milk.
Her absolute favorite recipe to make is pita piizza. We call them “Baby Pizzas.” Twice a week, she goes to a 3 year olds class at preschool in the morning. When I pick her up from school and ask what she wants to eat, most of the time it’s a boisterous yell of “Baby Pizza!”
It takes 3 ingredients and about 10 minutes, and you have an amazing lunch made by a toddler who will feel so proud of herself! She can even make one for you, too. I’ve found when they make it themselves, they actually eat, too!
Baby Pizzas
Ingredients
Pita pocket
Spaghetti sauce/tomato sauce
Mozzarella Cheese
1. Preheat oven to 450. Cover a small cookie sheet with foil and place the pita pocket in the middle.
2, Place a few tablespoons of sauce in a bowl. Make another bowl full of cheese. Place everything in front of your toddler and let the fun begin!
3. Have your toddler use a spoon and spread sauce all over the pita pocket.
4. Have your toddler top it with the cheese and spread it around.
5. Bake (I use a toaster oven) for about 8-10 minutes.
6. Cut, cool, and serve!
