As soon as we got home, father and son headed straight to the living room to hook everything up, and I headed straight to the kitchen to figure out some snacks.
Recently, I was given the opportunity to try the new Veggie Snack Chips from Green Giant. They sent us two flavors — Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chips in Garden Ranch flavor and Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips in Barbecue flavor. I thought this would be the perfect time to let the whole family try them.
I was going to make a dip to go with the tortilla chips. But, I asked if they wanted another dip for the barbecue chips. I got back a “No!” They did not want other flavors messing with the barbecue.
We all really loved the smoky barbecue in the Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips. They were very crispy and crunchy. Nate liked that they weren’t greasy like barbecue potato chips and that you could taste the multigrain-ness of the chips as well.
My girls climbed into a chair and finished off the bag together. Both love barbecue flavor chips, and I think these have become a favorite. My toddler has asked for them multiple times since then. Next time I’m at the store, I’m definitely picking up some more.
I had recently bought some sun dried tomatoes and found this sun dried tomato dip on Pinterest I was anxious to try. I thought this was perfect timing. As an added bonus, the recipe called for basil, and I was dying to find a way to use the basil growing in my garden. After reading the reviews, I adapted it quite a bit to increase the flavor.
Sun Dried Tomato Dip
1/3 cup sun-dried tomatoes (about 6-8)
8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup mayonnaise
4 cloves garlic, minced
hot pepper sauce to taste
1/2 tsp sea salt
3/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup fresh basil
1. Add all ingredients to food processor and pulse for a minute or two.
2. Transfer to a bowl and chill for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors mingle.
3. Serve with the new Green Giant Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chips in Garden Ranch Flavor.
After everyone had snacked on the barbecue chips for a bit, we played Rock Band. They even made me the singer! That was a bit scary because I have an intense fear of karaoke. However, by song #3, I was hooked! We played for about an hour while the sun dried tomato dip was chilling.
Then, it was snack time again. The veggie tortilla chips and the dip were another huge hit. We all loved the chips on their own. The flavor was amazing. Plus, I liked that they were heartier than your average tortilla chip and not crushed in the bottom of the bag like you often find tortilla chips.
With the dip, there was an added explosion of flavor in your mouth. Nate said he felt like a gourmet foodie with the flavors of both the chip and dip mingling in his mouth. It was layers upon layers of flavors. Very yummy!
After everyone had devoured the tortilla chips and dip, we headed back for another round of Rock Band. I can’t remember when we had such a fun time just staying home all together.
