I have a confession. I have a chocoholic for a toddler. I think she’s going to grow up to be one of those women who hide chocolate all over the house. I don’t know. I’ve never seen anyone love chocolate like her. I’m not a big chocolate lover and neither is Nate. I mean, it’s good, but I won’t kill for it. Now Laffy Taffy is another story. I could eat an entire bag of Laffy Taffy, except Banana flavor, which is a good thing because that’s Nate favorite.
Miss M loves her some chocolate. One way I’ve found to cut down on her chocolate obsession is chocolate milk made with chocolate syrup. I can get by with just a quick squirt of chocolate syrup in her milk, and she’s good. It doesn’t have the intense corn syrup store bought chocolate milk has, but I do have to keep buying chocolate syrup. And, let’s face it, I’m cheap.
Then, I saw this recipe for homemade chocolate syrup. Woohoo! Not only does it cut down on the corn syrup, but I always love something I can put in a Mason jar. It makes me feel all homemade-y and old fashioned.
3/4 C Water
1.5 C Sugar
3/4 C Cocoa
1 tsp Vanilla
Pinch of Salt
2 T Corn Syrup
5. Allow it to get to a gentle boil for about 2 minutes until it becomes smooth like chocolate syrup. Then, remove from heat and let cool.
