Lately I’ve been on a super simple kick. I want recipes as easy as possible and incorporating store bought things to make it easier sounds good to me. This is another crescent roll hack.
On my last trip to Sam’s Club, I bought a box of crescent roll dough. It came with several tubes. I usually bake up one for dinner once a week or so. Then, my teenager told me about about a recipe she saw on Pinterest or somewhere to make peach dumplings from crescent rolls. That got my brain working because I do love peaches so much. So, I whipped up a super quickie dessert a couple days ago that was fantastic. I couldn’t wait to share it with all of you.
As an aside, I recently needed to upgrade my iPhone 5. That sucker was on its deathbed. It would shut off randomly and would get stuck doing something more than half the time. I had the battery replaced and reset it back to factory conditions, but nothing was going to help my little iPhone. So, I upgraded a few weeks ago to the iPhone 6 Plus.
Oh. My. God! I love it! I can use it to really work on my blog because it’s got such a big screen. Plus, I love the touch id — just a fingerprint to unlock the phone or buy an app. Usually when I do my recipe shots, I use my Nikon fancy DSLR camera, but today, these pics were all taken with the iPhone 6 Plus. I’m just so pleased with how they came out.
Back to the recipe! I know peaches and nectarines are not exactly in season since it’s still winter. I think this recipe would work nicely even with frozen peaches. I bought fresh nectarines at the grocery store for my dumplings, but you can use peaches or even apricots. My nectarines were originally $2.99/lb. However, they were extremely ripe, so they were trying to get rid of them at about half that price. It’s still rather expensive, but I’m willing to pay for nectarines out of season, lol. And, I think they worked wonderfully in this dessert. In fact, I didn’t even peel them since they were so ripe.
This is one of those easy recipes that you can whip up while dinner’s cooking, and then put it in the oven while you’re eating dinner, and voila! Dessert is ready in the nick of time!
For this recipe, I didn’t even remove the skin. I cut the nectarines into thirds and then simply wrapped them in a crescent roll.
Next, I melted a stick of butter and 2/3 cup of brown sugar together. Then, I added a teaspoon of cinnamon. When I removed it from the heat, I added a teaspoon of vanilla.
I poured the entire saucepan over the dumplings. Then, I poured a cup of Sparkling Ice Peach Nectarine drink all over the dumplings. This is one of my favorite drinks (and this is not a sponsored post). You could easily substitute orange soda or lemon lime soda, too. Then, I baked it for 35 minutes at 350 degrees, while we ate dinner.

- 1 tube of crescent roll dough (not cut into individual triangles)
- 3 peaches/nectarines/apricots
- 2/3 cup of brown sugar
- 1 stick of butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1 cup of Peach Nectarine Sparkling Ice drink
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Spray an 8 x 8 pan with canola or olive oil.
- Wash and cut each nectarine or peach into thirds.
- Lay out the dough on a clean surface and with a pizza cutter, cut 9 triangles (similar to how crescent rolls are cut).
- Take one triangle and roll up one piece of peach to form a dumpling. Do this with all 9 pieces.
- Place them in the 8 x 8 pan. Then, set aside.
- In a small saucepan, melt 1 stick of butter over medium low heat.
- Add brown sugar and cinnamon to the butter and stir until completely mixed.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla.
- Pour over all the dumplings.
- Next, pour 1 cup of Sparkling Ice Peach Nectarine flavor over the dumplings.
- Cook for 35 minutes.
- Remove from oven when golden brown and let cool for a few moments before serving.
- TIP: These are absolutely delicious with a little cold cream poured over the dumpling in a bowl.
It’s perfect timing because just as we finished up dinner, the timer dinged. I let the dumplings cool while we cleared the table, and then we had dessert. I didn’t get a picture, but pouring a little whipping cream over the top of your dumpling makes this absolutely delicious!
