Do you have people in your life who do amazing work caring for others? Ever since I can remember, my mom has always been there for so many people. She took care of her mother through two bouts of cancer as well as both her elderly aunts. She is always the first person to bring someone anything they need after an illness, a death, or any kind of crisis.
My mom grew up with my grandma helping others. My grandma’s name was Katherine, and when my mom was a kid, she took in her own sister, who never married or had a family of her own. Her name was Virginia, but she was always my Aunt Virgie. My grandma was the baby in a family of 6 kids, so my Aunt Virgie was much older than my grandmother. She was like a grandmother to my mom when she was growing up.
Eventually my grandma’s other sister, Ruby, and my Aunt Virgie moved into a little white house together. My mom would check on them all the time. Over the years and as they aged, she took them to all their appointments, the grocery store, and whatever else they needed. My Aunt Virgie developed significant health problems, so my mother made the decision to move her into our home. While holding down her own full-time job, she cared for my dad, me, and my brother as well as my Aunt Virgie. I don’t know how she did it. My mom also had to make the heartbreaking decision to put my aunt in a nursing home when she broke her hip and became completely immobile. But, my mom still visited her nearly every day and helped feed her dinner.
Soon after this, my grandma’s cancer returned to her liver, and it became terminal. My grandma wanted to remain independent as long as possible, so my mom went to her apartment nearly every day caring for her. When the end was near, my mom moved in with my grandma to care for her in her last few months. And, believe it or not, she still maintained her full-time job. Luckily, she was able to work from home at my grandma’s apartment. By this time, I was in college and would visit my mom and grandma as often as I could. I would clean my grandma’s apartment for her every couple of weeks.
Through the years my mom was always volunteering from being the scout leader for my troop to spending countless hours volunteering at our schools. Seeing my mom’s example, I learned the importance of helping others. Even as a child and teenager, I did lots of volunteer work. One of my favorites was working for a radio station for the blind.
Even now, my mom is still one of the first people to help out others. She brings food to anyone who has been ill, just come home from the hospital, or had a death in the family. She’s spent weeks taking care of me and my family every time I’ve had a new baby. My mom is such a giving person.

I love this so much. There is far too much negativity and selfishness in this world. Things like this promote a sense of giving back and a commitment to doing right by those who deserve it most that is so needed these days.
What a great post! There is so much bad in the world, that i think we should really celebrate the good in the world! Your mom sounds like an amazing woman and should definitely win!

Being a caregiver is one of the toughest jobs we have. This is such a great way to show them that we care.

My friend is a caregiver of a person suffering from Dementia. It is such a hard job to watch someone you love suffer. I would nominate her.
Being a caregiver is one of the toughest jobs ! When my FIL was in bed and lost his memory, it was such a hard time for us who were helping him! This is such a great way to show them that we care.
